When to Consider a Sick Visit

It’s inevitable. It’s after hours or a weekend, or worse, it’s a holiday weekend, and you start to feel ill or injure yourself, but your doctor’s office is closed. Where do you turn?

You turn to urgent care. At Rapid Response Urgent Care in Granada Hills, California, our expert team of doctors and nurses sees people with all kinds of illnesses and injuries come in for sick visits every day of the week. If you have a pressing medical problem that’s not life-threatening, we can diagnose and treat you quickly and efficiently.

What is the difference between urgent care and the emergency room?

Urgent care centers, which usually accept patients on a walk-in basis, are ideal for pressing problems that require attention within 24-48 hours but aren’t life-threatening. If your problem is something you’d feel comfortable addressing with your primary care doctor, then an urgent care center is probably more appropriate than the emergency room (ER).

In addition, urgent care centers usually have far shorter wait times than the ER and cost less than a traditional ER visit.

Urgent care sick visits can handle:

  • High or long-lasting fever
  • Coughing, nasal congestion, or runny nose
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches or migraine attacks
  • General body aches
  • Vomiting, nausea, or diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Strep throat
  • Flu, severe colds, or COVID-19
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Ear infections
  • Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
  • Allergies
  • Asthma attacks
  • Dehydration
  • Animal bites
  • Wounds, fractures, and other minor injuries

We have on-site X-rays and a laboratory, so there’s no need to go anywhere else for testing, and we can prescribe intravenous (IV) fluids, antibiotics, or other medications to manage your condition.

If you have more serious concerns, such as chest pain, deep puncture wounds, or seizures, an ER would be more appropriate, as they’re set up to handle a wide range of emergencies.

If you’re unsure if a sick visit is in order, contact the Rapid Response Urgent Care team, and we’ll advise you what to do.

What else can urgent care handle?

Rapid Response Urgent Care handles more than just strep throat and sprained ankles. Our doctors also provide annual and sports physicals, IV therapy, and workers’ compensation services for patients who’ve had on-the-job mishaps.

In addition, we offer vaccinations, such as COVID-19 and flu shots, to reduce your risk of getting sick or having severe symptoms from an illness.

Rapid Response Urgent Care can handle most urgent but not life-threatening conditions, and we’re open seven days a week. Walk in, call us at 818-923-5216, or book an appointment online.
